Holiday Tune
Another tune from "Across the Great Divide," this one in the holiday spirit instead of bitter sarcasm.
Lyrics with chords are available, but I haven't found an audio track on the 'net, except for 42 min, 47 sec into Robbie Osman's archived broadcast. (The rest of the show is also worthwhile, of course.)
The song has a lot of clever lines, and one of my favorites is, "We'll discuss it when they leave," which, though my parents might deny it, rings a bell from childhood.
Discussing when company leaves... now there's a strategy for desparate parents. It's a fade to black right before a movie car crash, implying a resounding "No" without saying. It's trading potentially boundless tantraum for whatever your company's imagination can conjur, which isn't exactly bounded either. And it might not even work once your child learns that it's a rain check for "no."
Or maybe it doesn't imply a "no" with tantraum so much as a discussion that wouldn't suit your guests. I'm not sure which would be worse perceived by company.
This is the second season I've heard the song. I hope its subtleties make it a holiday favorite that is interesting every year.
