1. Bake yams for 1 - 1.5 hrs at 400 degrees.
  2. Liberally butter pan and sprinkle with 1/2 c brown sugar.
  3. Arrange potatoes and sprinkle another 1/2 c brown sugar over top.
  4. Top with small globs of butter and top with pecans.
  5. Bake at 350, cover if necessary to avoid over-browning.

Makes enough for 12 people.
